Diversion Books will copyedit, format, and distribute your work through a large number of eBook retailers. In addition, Diversion will provide access to print-on-demand capabilities. Creating and distributing a profitable eBook is a complicated and time-consuming process; there are multiple distribution channels and many obstacles to navigate. Diversion has worked hard to develop and secure relationships with eBook distributors and has established agreements with Amazon, BN.com, Kobo, Sony, iBooks (Apple), and Google eBooks. In addition, we are able to execute proper formatting and design for all e-reading devices.
We’re sure you will have a lot of questions about the venture, so here are a few we will try to answer in advance.
Who is going to edit my eBook?
A dedicated in-house member of Diversion books will handle the entire process of copyediting, design, managing conversion to the eBook formats, and distribution to the e-tailers.
How are you going to market my eBook?
In addition to drafting a press release and publishing it on our website, Diversion's marketing team will analyze authors' positioning and create an individualized marketing plan for each book. We will also provide a marketing manual to help them through the process of getting the word out to the community. Diversion will help authors select the particular approaches that are right for their work, their strengths and their existing platform, and will also promote each work through our social media outlets. Diversion also partners with the very best publicists in the industry and can offer these services to authors.
What kinds of books work for Diversion?
1) Small market—Nonfiction works that are being overlooked by the big houses but still have sales potential. A work may be appropriate for a niche market with a finite audience. Because the large publishers are more and more resistant to publishing small or “mid-list” books as time goes on, authors need new options.
2) Shorter Books—In order to charge a profitable list price on a print book, publishers need books to be no less than 35-40,000 words, with most books averaging between 80-120,000 words. eBooks do not have these inherent costs and, therefore, are well-suited to works of any length. Long articles, novellas, and collections of blogs, short stories, essays, and articles are all possibilities.
3) Fast Turnaround—As the speed of information accelerates due to technology, the urgency to publish certain books as fast as possible has become a vital aspect of the business. As fast as print production has become compared to a decade ago, the speed of the electronic format is much faster. In cases where several weeks can make the difference between a bestseller and yesterday’s news, the electronic format is ideal.
4) Novelists With Fans—There are some wonderful novelists, either previously published or new voices, who know their audience and feel confident they can reach them. We look forward to partnering with these authors to help them continue to build their brand.
5) Out-of-Print Books—There’s a rich, vast collection of books that publishers have let go out of print. By formally requesting that the rights be reverted back to the author, you now have the opportunity to sell and make your work available to the world in electronic form. Not only does this fulfill the reader demand for back-list titles, it also allows you to take advantage of revenue from work you’ve already established.
