A BEHIND THE SCENES LOOK AT THE YANKEES GETS A SECOND LIFE AT DIVERSIONBOOKS

August 20, 2013 - Marty Appel, the youngest director of public relations in baseball history and author of Pinstripe Empire, has re-released his memoir Now Pitching for the Yankees: Spinning the News for Mickey, Billy and George as an eBook with Diversion Books.

Originally published in 2001, Now Pitching for the Yankees racked up accolades, as ESPN.Com named it the New York baseball book of the year and Spitball Magazine nominated it for the Casey Award. Now Pitching for the Yankees is a unique insider’s look at the New York Yankees from 1968-1977, standing shoulder-to-shoulder with legends like Reggie Jackson and owner George Steinbrenner. In USA Today, Larry King noted “Baseball insiders are calling it the best front office book ever written about sports, and it’s a riot.” The new eBook edition includes a new chapter from Appel reflecting on the changes and milestones in the game since the original publication.

“I'm pleased the ebook technology has come along to expand the readership for the book,” says Appel, “which is essentially the tale of a young Yankee fan who got to climb the wall and observe from within all that has long fascinated Yankee fans.” Today’s publication with Diversion Books marks the debut of Now Pitching for the Yankees in digital format.

About Marty Appel:
Marty Appel is widely acknowledged as the nation's leading historian on the New York Yankees.  His time with the Yankees stretched from 1968-1992, and is uniquely documented in his memoir, Now Pitching for the Yankees.  A Brooklyn-born Yankees fan, he continues his association with the club, appearing frequently on Yankeeographies (YES Network), and Yankees.com, while writing for team publications.  Appel is the author of 18 books including the acclaimed Yankees history Pinstripe Empire. He resides in Manhattan with his wife and has two grown children.

DIVERSIONBOOKS and Gersh Agency Partner to Create eBook Imprint

Diversion Books has struck an exclusive deal with The Gersh Agency to create a branded book imprint for Gersh clients. The new line of fiction and non-fiction titles will launch Summer 2013, and include digital originals and backlist reissues in eBook and print-on-demand (POD) formats.

"The idea of an agency branded imprint, where authors and their representatives are fully engaged in the publishing process makes a lot of sense and in Gersh we have found the ideal partner,” says Diversion’s editorial director, Mary Cummings. "We have had a great experience working with Gersh on the eBook and POD publication of Lucy Alibar’s magical play, ‘Juicy and Delicious’, which became the Oscar-nominated film, ‘Beasts of the Southern Wild.’ We look forward to further successes, with a dedicated branding effort, a quick turnaround time for publication, and marketing strategies suited for Gersh clients. We’re expecting big things.”

From their work with major media companies like The Washington Post to individual authors like S.E. Hinton and Mark Cuban, Diversion is a leading innovator in eBook publishing that also embodies the best of the traditional publishing experience.

"We are thrilled to have Diversion as a strategic publishing partner," said Joseph Veltre, head of Gersh's books department. He adds, "Each book in our new venture will have a unique marketing, promotion, design and distribution plan to help authors connect with readers. As the publishing industry continues to evolve, this program presents an exciting new outlet for our clients’ work, and emphasizes our continued commitment to serve them at the highest level.”

Mr. Cuban, who made his fortune selling a company toYahoo Inc. amid the dot-com boom, says that over the years he has been offered a "ton of money" to write his life story. He always said no, unwilling to take on the requirements associated with traditional publishing.

With an Ebook release I can sit here and promote it on social media and via email interviews, which I like a lot better."
